Hundreds of people gathered at Bosse High School to ask city leaders to address the lack of affordable housing in Evansville.

The Congregations Acting for Justice and Empowerment hosted its annual Nehemiah Action event — asking leaders to make affordable housing a priority.

CAJE officials say 514 people are homeless in Evansville.

Board members are asking the city leaders to put more money into the city’s Affordable Housing Trust Fund.

They suggested that a percentage of Evansville’s casino fund go into the trust fund every year.

Officials say the trust fund is an essential resource to address the city’s need for low-income housing.

CAJE is a nonprofit group of local faith communities representing people from Vanderburgh, Warrick and Posey counties. For more than 20 years, members have pushed for social change to address what they call systemic injustices.
