Topeka faith leaders gathered for a “Moral Moment” Wednesday night in front of City Hall.
Clergy leaders with Topeka JUMP convened to draw attention to the Affordable Housing Trust Fund reported on in recent months. JUMP says it’s been urging the city to utilize the fund since 2019. The fund eclipsed $1 million in April 2023.
The group is pleased with moves the city has made toward activating the funding set aside for housing efforts, but wants to draw attention to the lack of a permanent funding source for continued support.
“We want our officials, and everyone, to know what’s important to the community of Topeka,” Rev. Christine Potter said. “We’re just committed to fighting the good fight, and to keep asking them to take action.“
Topeka JUMP is also preparing for its Nehemiah Action Assembly on April 10.
