CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – The City of Charleston is one step closer to a contract with a Virginia company to conduct an audit on the Charleston Police Department for racial bias.
City council on Tuesday voted to fund the $159,000 contract with the CNA Corporation.
The Charleston Area Justice Ministry asked the city to perform that audit two years ago.
“We believe that this is a significant and historic step by the city,” said Arthur McFarland, Co-President of the Charleston Area Justice Ministry. “Generally, it has been forced upon them because of some incident.”
McFarland says the audit means there will be returns and results that will help relations between the community and Charleston City Police officers.
